[ the only wisdom she can think of is that there are a good many people -- all of them -- among the scorched who understand on some level, who've lost someone and wasted away waiting. and she knows how little that helps, so she opts for the next best thing; talking. like tonks had wanted. just talking about it, about whoever it is she's missing. ]

[ We're approaching the territory of six-months. ]

And there hasn't been ... anything? Any sign, any ... nothing? [ buffy's a little stunned by the devotion, but at the same time, she can't help feeling she's staring down the future for her if angel ever leaves. ]

No. There's not been anything.

I've been trying to keep the faith. The alternative to not being here... [ Tonks lets out a breath. ] It's worse than being stuck in Anatole.

You're not the first person I've heard say that. Things not so good back home, huh? [ she gives a quiet noise of understanding. even if she herself can't say the same, she does understand the sentiment. there are people she would never want to go back home simply because of what waits for them and how much she loves them. ] If you have something of his, there's this. This kid. Mordred. I think his magic can sense people. If they're, y'know, Mist-gone, or gone-gone, or coming back-gone. Sometimes, he knows.

He's dead.

[ In Tonks' time, things are not yet completely awful. It will get to that point, however. ]

I have several things of his. I dunno about asking Mordred though.

Why not?

He's Mordred. Right. Right. I know. He's just a child and Morgana was sweet when she first arrived.

You're not seriously holding those stories against a ten-year-old. [ sigh. ] Well, it's your call. I just thought maybe it'd give ... I don't know. Closure. One way or the other.

[ If that helps, which Tonks can imagine that it probably doesn't. Her relationship with Arthur, when he had been in Anatole, was special. As the legend goes in her own world, Mordred kills Arthur. Morgana took some time to get comfortable with. Tonks just hasn't bothered with Mordred. ]

I shouldn't. Right. Fine. I'll try it.

I'd suggest someone else if I had any ideas, but as far as I know, Mordred's the only one with that kinda magic.

[ Tonks is silent for a few moments. ]

Then I suppose I'll have to ask him.

You don't have to. I just ... I think it'd help. And that you should. It might not be the answer you want to hear, but it could be the one you need.

[ She could do what is the easiest or she could do the harder thing (which is also the right thing). ]
